Diving for our younger members

Yellow Nudibranc

Diving is not just for adults

This page is for those who wish to dive with their children.

Not as fearsome as you might think. Kids get a great kick out of diving. Take a look at our recent Pool Activities.

Back to Top Diving is fun for young people too

Are you a diver? Do you have children? If so you are probably well aware of the frustrations of taking a dive holiday. Do you end up putting your kids in the hotel "Kid's Clubs" so that you can spend the day diving, and then feeling guilty for not spending time with the family?

So much Gear

Yes - kids CAN carry all that gear - no problem!

Many diving families face this dilemma. Fortunately, there are solutions. PADI will certify children at the age of 10, and BSAC at the age of 12. Although 10 seems very young to have the responsibility of diving, it is very surprising and inspiring the level of maturity these 10 year olds do, in fact, have. Furthermore, these youngsters are only given a "Junior Open Water" certification, and are limited as to their depth and whom they are allowed to dive with.

Graduation Ceremony

Qualified at last - hope they used waterproof ink!

Below the age of 10, PADI offers various programs that involve ocean awareness and an introduction to scuba equipment and principals; all within a confined area. Between 8 and 12 PADI offers it's SEAL TEAM or Bubblemaker program. More information about these programs is available on the PADI website: www.padi.com -> PADI courses.

BSAC offers snorkeling courses from the age of 6. Snorkeling is a great water activity and a very good introduction to scuba diving. Learn about snorkeling correctly and safely from one of our instructors.

At Free Flow Divers, we offer monthly "Try Dives" at the British Club to give you and/or your children an introduction to the wonderful world of scuba diving. We are also very lucky to have our resident instructors, Terry Booth with PADI and Dave Woodward with BSAC in our club, either of them will be very happy to certify you and/or your child. Please contact them directly for more information.
